Hi, everyone! Yesterday was the final Flash Fiction Friday of the month. It seems like the month went by very quickly, and it’s hard to believe that the challenge is finished. I’ve had the best time participating, and I hope to do another month-long challenge again before the year is out.

This week’s prompt: “If you’ve got a minute, I’d like to show you what just showed up in my backyard.”

I’ll be honest… I struggled writing for this prompt the most out of all of them. When I sat down to write, I had no idea what direction to head in, and even when I finally got my footing, the story spun off in a direction that even I did not expect. If I had more time (and the story wasn’t supposed to be under 1500 words), I would likely expand this story a bit. Perhaps in the editing phase, I’ll choose to make it longer as I’ll no longer be under any restrictions. For now, however, the story is what it is, and you’ll have to let me know what you think of it.

I have loved to read mystery and crime books for a long time, and while this story doesn’t really fall under the “crime” category, it does include interactions with the police. Funnily enough, this is the second story I’ve written this month that involves the police. You’ll get a sample from the first one on Tuesday, and that story certainly falls under the “crime" category.

This story, surprisingly, doesn’t go over the word limit, though if I chose to expand upon it, it certainly would. For now, I think the lack of details adds to the ending. At least, I hope it does.

I don’t want to give too many details away, so I’ll just say that this story involves an angry landowner and his desire to get some pesky archeologists off his property.

For my continued disclaimer, I’ll say that this story is in rough shape. There may be misspelled words (since I’m a terrible speller, and I don’t always trust Word’s suggestions all the time), missing commas, missing words, and a whole cacophony of other errors and mistakes. I will readily own all of them, and I’ll do my best to eliminate them before I put them into a book for publication. If you’d like to take a chance on my fill, you can find it here.

I’d like to direct you to check out @soultouchingpoetry on Instagram. She has filled every prompt with me this month, and I appreciate it immensely. You can find her fill for this week below. I also highly recommend you check out her Instagram page for more poetry. Thank you for participating in this with me! I really appreciate it!

Total August word count: 28,294

Thank you for your continued support of my new projects and stories. In the next week or two, I plan to reveal the cover for my newest anthology as well as set up for pre-sale on Amazon. So, be sure to stay tuned for updates. If you haven’t yet signed up for my newsletter, be sure that you do! I release it twice a month, and each update contains a story that I don’t release on my social media! Thank you for reading, and have a great week!
