Hey, guys! Welcome back to my blog!

Today’s post is going to be about one of the main characters in my book, Hart Christianson. However, before we get to that, I want to take a quick moment to update you about how my first week of NaNoWriMo has been going.

I started out very strong on November first writing over 4k words. I was feeling inspired, and it was easy to write; so, by the end of day one, I’d already finished the entire intro chapter which I’m using for world-building.

On the second, I participated in a set of three sprints with a small writing group I’ve formed, and I had a very productive night, writing over 2k words, almost 3k. I was writing the first part of the prologue which I quickly learned might need to be less of a prologue and more of a “part one” because it appeared that the more I wrote, the more I felt like more of this section of the story needed to be told than I’d originally planned.

Day three went easily as well, and I roughly 2k, ending somewhere in the 9k range overall. I was feeling really good, and I finished the first chapter of what I’m now calling Part One.

It was lucky that I had three very good days in a row, however, because days four and five turned out to be kind of a bust. I had a lot of stuff come up in my day that I had to take care of, and I didn’t have much time to write. So, I barely wrote 500 words between the two days.

By day six, I was able to get back into the groove and wrote another almost 2k words. I started writing the second chapter of part one, and I knew almost immediately that there would be a chapter three in Part One, perhaps even a chapter four. We shall see as I just finished chapter two yesterday evening, ending up with a grand total of just over 13k. So, I’m not doing too bad so far.

Now, who, you may ask, is the subject of this Part One that just keeps growing and growing? Well, that would Hart Christianson. We first meet him in the Intro when the world is formed, along with the idea of soulmates. Then, Hart and his soulmate choose their first adventure, and Hart is sent into the world to start his life. The kicker? He goes into the world nearly 400 years before his soulmate will. You’ll have to wait and see how I overcome that!

Hart is an adorable blonde with a tendency to whine when he doesn’t get his way. He grows up, at least for the first seven years of his life, on his parent’s farm before he is sent off to find someone who will take him on as a page. Through a series of unexpected events, Hart finds himself doing a task he never thought he’d be doing, and he winds up impressing one of the king’s well-loved knights who, after a talk with the king, is given permission to take on a page. So, for a while, we follow Hart who, even as he matures into a teen, is quite innocent and unassuming about the world. That is until someone shakes him up, and he gets some unsolicited advice from someone who does not, perhaps, have the best view of the world.

As I don’t want to spoil any more of the story than I already have, I’m not going to go any further than that. Hopefully, that gives you just a hint into the world I’ve been wrapped up in for the last week, and maybe entices you to want to know. If you do, please let me know! Maybe there’s something I’ll be able to tell you in future blog posts that I haven’t even thought about yet!

Anyway, that about wraps it up for this blog post. It’s not very long, but I wanted to give you a quick update before I jump back into writing!

If you’re signed up for my newsletter, look for that to arrive in your inbox in just a few hours, and I look forward to continuing to update you on what’s going on as I strive to write a novel (or at least the first 50k words of one) in a month!

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you all back here next week!
