Good afternoon, peeps! I’m back! I know this should have been posted yesterday, but I was too distracted with making some Christmas gifts I’ll hopefully be delivering mid-November, and I forgot to post.

So, let’s talk about Ominous October. First, I can’t believe that it’s almost over! It seems like I just started this not so many days ago, and now here we are on October 25th. The time has gone by so fast! In less than one week, I’ll be working hard on my NaNoWriMo project which will be the topic of next week’s blog post where you’ll get all the juicy deets on what I’ll be writing and how you can find updates on how the month is going for me.

So, this month has been full of many surprises. First and foremost is the sheer number of poems I’ve written this month. When I set out to do this challenge as a prep for NaNoWriMo, I expected to write mostly prose. After all, I spent a large portion of August and September working on short stories and putting together my book. Why wouldn’t my mind be in that place, overflowing with ideas for more short stories? But it seems, more often than not, that when I sit down to work on filling the prompt for the day, a poem comes to mind more easily than a short story. I’m not sure why that’s the case, but I’ve really been enjoying the poetry this month. I always thought I needed to be in a deep, brooding mindset to write poetry, but this month has proven that’s not the case.

There have been prose written though, too, a few of which I’m quite proud. I really enjoyed writing what will probably, someday, be a children’s book about the kind little witch. I also enjoyed my fill for yesterday’s prompt word, “Somethin’ Strange.” I love writing characters with accents, and I need to get a little bit better at others. However, I think “hick speak” will always be my favorite.

One story in particular, however, is my absolute favorite. That would be the story that I called “West End Jefferson.” After I wrote that, the story went directly into my to-be-explored-later folder because I definitely want to experiment with turning that story into a novel at some point. If you’ve ever watched the show Riverdale that comes on CW, you should know that “West End Jefferson” gave me similar feels to that show. In case you missed it on my social media, I’ll feel you in a bit on what I wrote.

Essentially, the portion that I wrote would be an introduction to a much bigger story. A police officer in the small town of West End Jefferson is fearing for his town as it’s been almost 50 years since anything really shocking happened in their town. The last time something happened was when his father was new to the force; he dealt with a serial murderer, and he really turned their town upside down. This officer is concerned their town has become too idyllic; something’s got to give. The little story one with the officer warning the reader not to leave their little town in a body bag.

Though that type of story is not something I ever thought I’d write, I’m very, very interested in seeing where this story could take me. I think it could be a story full of twists and turns, and those are certainly the most exciting things to write. That story, “West End Jefferson,” is definitely the highlight of Ominous October for me.

Before I sign off, I’ll just say a few things. There will be a new newsletter coming out in a few hours. Then, there will not be another for a few weeks as I will be on vacation for about 10 days in November. (By vacation, I really just mean visiting with relatives, not taking time off of writing.)

I will FINALLY be getting my copy of my book tomorrow! I didn’t think it would be arriving until November 1, but Amazon has declared they’ll deliver it tomorrow. I am very excited, and I can’t wait to see it for myself.

Thanks for stopping by my little blog! I’ll see you next week with lots of juicy NaNoWriMo details!
